What stands out
What stands out
- Commission starts at 15% of referred users' trading fees; 'starting at' implies higher partner rates
- MiCA-licensed EU exchange with euro on-ramps, a familiar brand for EU/EEA audiences
- Welcome campaigns such as 7 days of fee-free trading (up to €10,000 volume) help conversion
- Dedicated affiliate account keeps commission separate from your personal trading account
Watch out for
- Affiliate terms, cookie window, payout schedule and minimum payout aren't public
- Only residents of supported EU/EEA countries can be referred
- A 15% starting rate is lower than many offshore exchange programs
- Affiliate account cannot trade or hold crypto — it only receives and withdraws earnings
- Codes cannot be added after a user has registered
Bitvavo is a Dutch exchange built for European retail buyers: euro deposits, a MiCAMiCA The EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, which licenses crypto providers and sets rules for how crypto is marketed in the EU. More licence and a simple app. Its affiliate program reflects that focus. You can only earn from EU/EEA residents, you’re paid from a euro-only affiliate account, and the commission starts lower than at offshore derivatives exchanges. In return, you get a regulated brand that converts well in markets where many competitors can’t advertise freely.
This review looks at the program from the European publisher’s point of view: who can join, who your readers need to be, how the money moves and which gaps in the published terms you should close before you commit.
The EU angle: who the Bitvavo affiliate program is for
Start with geography, because it decides everything else.
Your referrals must live in a supported EU/EEA country. The affiliate page lists 27 supported countries, and Bitvavo’s bonus campaigns are restricted to EU/EEA residents. Traffic from the UK, the US, Switzerland or Asia earns you nothing here, however well it converts elsewhere.
Your own location is less clear. Bitvavo doesn’t publish a list of countries where affiliates may be based. What it does say is that an affiliate account is a separate business-type account. If you operate outside the EU, ask about eligibility in your application rather than assuming.
The payment rails are European. Bitvavo’s own support pages list SEPA bank transfer as the main euro deposit route, iDEAL for Dutch users, Bancontact for Belgian bank accounts (after a first SEPA deposit verifies the account), plus card, Apple Pay and PayPal options depending on the country. That matters for your content: a Dutch reader who can pay with iDEAL in a few taps converts very differently from a reader who has to wait for a SEPA transfer. Bitvavo’s countries page shows which methods apply where.
Write country-specific "how to buy" pages. A Dutch page that walks through an iDEAL deposit and a Belgian page that explains the first-SEPA-then-Bancontact step will out-convert one generic EU page, because they answer the exact friction your reader meets.

How the Bitvavo affiliate commission works
The Bitvavo affiliate page advertises a commission “starting at 15%” of all trading feesTrading fees What an exchange charges per trade, usually a small percentage of the trade size. Most exchange affiliate commissions are a share of these fees. More paid by the users you refer. Earnings are deposited into your Bitvavo affiliate account.
What we know and what we don’t:
- Base rate: 15% of fees. This is a revenue share on fees, not on deposits or trade size. Your income grows with how actively your referrals trade.
- Higher tiers are implied, not published. “Starting at” suggests that bigger partners get more, but there’s no public tier table. Treat anything above 15% as a negotiation with Bitvavo after you’ve shown volume.
- Commission duration is not disclosed. The affiliate page doesn’t say whether you earn for the lifetime of the account or for a fixed period.
- Attribution is set at sign-up. Your code or link has to be used during registration. Codes can’t be added afterwards, so a reader who forgets the link is lost to you.
- Cookie lengthCookie life How long after a click the program still credits you if the visitor signs up or buys. A 30-day cookie gives the user 30 days to convert. More is not disclosed. Don’t build a funnel that relies on users coming back days later through another channel.
Bitvavo's public affiliate landing page blocks automated access, so the 15% figure in this review comes from the indexed version of that official page. The application route is confirmed in Bitvavo's Help Center. Ask for the full affiliate agreement in writing before you rely on any rate.
Affiliate program vs Friend Referral Program
Bitvavo runs two schemes that look similar on the surface. Mixing them up is the most common mistake European creators make with this brand.
| Affiliate program | Friend Referral Program | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Publishers, creators, partners | Any verified user, personal and non-commercial use only |
| How to join | Application form, reviewed by Bitvavo | Available in your user account |
| Commission | From 15% of referred users' trading fees | 15% of friends' transaction fees |
| Cap | Not published | €500 per month |
| Payout | To a separate affiliate account | Daily, in euro, verified IBAN required |
The Friend Referral Program is explicitly for personal, non-commercial use. If you share a referral codeReferral code A short code a new user enters at sign-up that permanently links their account to you, even if they never click your link. More on a monetised website or YouTube channel, you’re operating outside its intended scope and you hit the €500 monthly cap quickly. The affiliate program exists for exactly that audience.
Bitvavo also runs invite-only campaigns from time to time. One example is a Margin Trading Friends Referral that paid €500 per friend for up to five friends. These are targeted at selected users, so don’t plan income around them.
How to join the Bitvavo affiliate program
- Open the Help Center application. Go to the article How can I open a Bitvavo affiliate account? and fill in the affiliate form. Describe your audience by country, since only EU/EEA residents count.
- Wait for Bitvavo's review. Approval is manual. Use the time to ask about tiers, commission duration, payout timing and any minimum, because none of these are public.
- Receive your affiliate account. It's a dedicated account type that only receives and withdraws affiliate earnings. It can't buy, trade, send, hold or receive crypto, so keep your personal trading on a separate account.
- Place your code where sign-ups happen. Users must enter the code or use your link at registration. Put it next to every sign-up mention, not only in a footer.
- Track and withdraw. Commission from 15% of referred users' fees accrues to the affiliate account, and you withdraw from there to your bank.
Getting paid in practice
Payout frequency and the minimum payoutMinimum payout The smallest balance you must earn before the program pays you. Earnings below it usually roll over to the next period. More are not disclosed for the affiliate program. What’s clear is the plumbing: earnings land in the affiliate account and are withdrawn in fiat. For comparison, the consumer referral scheme pays daily in euro to a verified IBAN, which gives you a sense of how Bitvavo prefers to move money.
Two practical consequences. First, budget in euro. If your costs are in another currency, factor in conversion. Second, because the affiliate account can’t hold crypto, you can’t take commission in BTC or stablecoins here. If being paid in crypto matters, see our list of affiliate programs that pay in crypto.
Bonuses you can promote, and their catch
Bitvavo’s welcome offers change by campaign, but they’re a real conversion tool. Recent formats include a welcome bonus such as a €20 crypto bundle in BTC, ETH and SOL (tied to a deposit or trade volume), and a Free Trading Bonus that refunds trading fees for seven days on up to €10,000 of volume.
The catch your readers should hear from you, not discover later:
- A 180-day withdrawal lock applies to bonuses unless the campaign says otherwise.
- Not every trade counts. Trades through the Bitvavo Trading API and on stablecoin markets (EUR/EURC, EUR/EUROP) don’t count toward bonus requirements.
- Campaigns are EU/EEA only.
Being upfront about these conditions protects you twice: it keeps your content accurate, and under MiCA, crypto marketing is expected to be fair, clear and not misleading.
Traffic rules and compliance
Bitvavo doesn’t publish a list of allowed or banned traffic sources for affiliates. That isn’t permission to do anything; it means you should get the rules in writing. Ask specifically about:
- Brand biddingBrand bidding Buying search ads on a brand's own name, such as 'Bitget login'. Most crypto programs ban it and can void your commissions. More and PPCPPC Paid ads where you pay each time someone clicks, like Google or Bing search ads. Crypto ads face strict platform rules. More campaigns on “Bitvavo” keywords;
- paid social ads, which in several EU countries carry their own crypto advertising rules;
- coupon and cashback sites;
- Telegram and Discord promotion.
Keep risk warnings visible on every page that promotes the exchange, avoid return promises, and disclose that you earn a commission. Our traffic sources guide explains which channels tend to be accepted by regulated European brands.
Who should join, and who should look elsewhere
Join if you:
- publish in Dutch, German, French, Spanish or another EU language for retail buyers;
- create beginner content about buying crypto with euros;
- want a regulated brand that’s easy to recommend to cautious readers.
Look elsewhere if you:
- have mostly non-EU traffic;
- run a derivatives or high-leverage audience, where offshore exchanges pay higher shares;
- need a published contract, cookie window and payout schedule before you start;
- want to be paid in crypto.
Conversion tips for Bitvavo
- Lead with the local payment method. “Buy Bitcoin with iDEAL” or “with Bancontact” is a more specific promise than “buy Bitcoin in Europe”.
- Time content around campaigns. A seven-day fee refund or a crypto bundle gives readers a reason to sign up now. Update pages when the campaign changes.
- Repeat the code at the moment of sign-up. Because codes can’t be added later, a short “enter this code during registration” box beside your sign-up instructions saves lost commissions.
- Build for recurring traders. Your income is a share of fees, so readers who build a habit of regular buying are worth more than one-time visitors.
Bitvavo alternatives for European audiences
- Bitpanda pays up to 20% revenue share depending on your referrals’ total net monthly revenue, with CPA options for some traffic sources. Note that its affiliate terms exclude Netherlands-based affiliates, which makes Bitvavo the more natural choice for Dutch publishers.
- Crypto.com advertises up to 50% across products, earned for 180 to 365 days after each referred customer completes KYC.
- KuCoin offers up to 60% lifetime revenue share, but check its restricted list (it includes Belgium, France and the Netherlands) before targeting EU readers.
- Coinmama suits card-purchase content where readers want a single buy rather than an exchange account.

Verdict
The Bitvavo affiliate program is a narrow but sensible deal: from 15% of referred users’ trading fees, a regulated EU brand, strong local payment rails and welcome campaigns that genuinely help conversion. The narrowness is the point. If your readers live in the EU/EEA and want to buy crypto with euros, Bitvavo fits them better than most offshore exchanges.
The weak spot is transparency. Commission duration, cookie length, payout timing, minimum payout and traffic rules are all unpublished, and the affiliate account can only hold euro earnings. Apply, but get those terms in writing first, and compare the economics with the revenue share models other exchanges offer.
