What stands out

What stands out

  • 25% revenue share on merchant processing fees
  • Earns for up to 5 years per merchant, with extension possible
  • No earnings cap
  • Withdraw on request from 50 USDT, no monthly waiting period
  • Bonus rewards and higher rates after 5+ active referred merchants

Watch out for

  • 'Lifetime' marketing claim is actually 5 years
  • Share is of NOWPayments' profit on fees, not of the fee itself
  • Full list of payout coins and fiat withdrawal method not published
  • Only pays on merchant volume — needs a B2B audience

NOWPayments is a non-custodial crypto payment gateway. Online shops, SaaS products, hosting companies and other businesses use it for invoices, checkout buttons, subscriptions and mass payouts in crypto. Its affiliate program is a merchant referral scheme: you introduce a business, the business processes payments, and you take a share of what NOWPayments earns on them.

That one sentence filters the audience. If your readers are retail traders looking for the cheapest exchange, nothing they do here will earn you a cent. If you build websites, run an agency, write for e-commerce owners or advise online businesses, NOWPayments is one of the few crypto programs where a single referral can pay for years.

The “lifetime” claim versus the five-year term

The affiliate page leads with “lifetime rewards”. Read the next line and the promise becomes: rewards for five years, with the potential to extend. The help center says the same thing in different words. The standard reward period is five years, and NOWPayments offers lifetime extensions to top affiliates.

So treat NOWPayments as a five-year revenue shareRevShare You earn a percentage of the revenue a platform makes from your referred users — on exchanges, usually a share of their trading fees. More and any extension as a bonus you have to earn. That is still long by affiliate standards. Most exchange programs that call themselves a lifetime commissionLifetime commission You keep earning from a referred user for as long as they stay active, with no end date written into the deal. More lose referrals to churn long before five years pass, and a business that has wired a gateway into its checkout rarely rips it out in a hurry.

There is a second wrinkle. Some older posts on the NOWPayments blog describe a one-year earning window per referral. The current affiliate page and help center both say five years, and that is what we use on this page. Still, an affiliate who relies on a long tail should ask the partnerships team to confirm the term for their account. NOWPayments says it can sign a formal affiliate agreementAffiliate agreement The contract that sets your commission, allowed traffic, payout rules and the reasons a program can withhold payment. More with you if you prefer a contract, which is the cleanest way to lock the five years down.

Fact check

Directories that list NOWPayments as "lifetime" are repeating the marketing headline. The defined term is five years per merchant, extendable. A five-year clock usually starts per referral, but NOWPayments does not spell out the start date publicly, so ask.

How the NOWPayments commission is calculated

The rate is 25% of NOWPayments’ profit from the fees your referred merchants pay, credited per transaction. A blog post on the program describes the same thing as 25% of the service fee after third-party deductions. Either way, the base is smaller than the fee the merchant sees on their invoice, because network and partner costs come out first.

This matters when you compare programs. CoinGate’s 20% applies to its fee itself, so a lower headline on a bigger base can beat a higher headline on a smaller one. NOWPayments does not publish its margin, which means you cannot turn “25% of profit” into a per-transaction number on your own. What you can do is ask: send marketing@nowpayments.io a realistic merchant profile (monthly crypto volume, average ticket, coins accepted) and ask what that merchant would be worth to you per month.

Three other details shape your earnings:

  • No earnings cap. You can refer as many merchants as you like and there is no ceiling on what they generate.
  • Milestone boosts. Refer five or more active merchants and you become eligible for bonus rewards and elevated commission rates. NOWPayments does not publish the boosted rate, so do not count on it when you plan.
  • Active means processing. Your share comes from transactions, not sign-ups. A merchant who creates an account and never takes a crypto payment pays you nothing.

NOWPayments mentions “exclusive bonuses” for referred businesses on the affiliate page without describing them. Unlike CoinGate’s 10% fee discount, there is no published incentive you can put in a pitch, so if you need one, negotiate it before you start outreach.

Getting paid: 50 USDT, on request, in crypto

Payout terms are clearer in the help center than on the affiliate page. Once your balance passes 50 USDT (the help center also phrases it as “exceeds $50”), you can withdraw. There is no monthly waiting period. You choose when to cash out.

  1. Create a NOWPayments account. Sign up through the NOWPayments affiliate page. The affiliate program lives inside the same dashboard merchants use.
  2. Copy your referral link. Open the Affiliate Program section to get the link you give to merchants. The business must sign up through it so it is recorded under your account.
  3. Help the merchant go live. Your income starts with their first processed payment. Integration help is part of the job, not an extra.
  4. Watch the dashboard. Real-time tracking shows finished transactions per referral and estimated profit.
  5. Request a payout. In the Request Payout tab, pick a supported crypto wallet address (BTC, ETH and others), confirm, and submit.

The help center names only BTC and ETH as examples; NOWPayments does not publish the full list of payout coins. The affiliate page adds that fiat profit withdrawals are available, but does not explain the method or currency. If you need euros or dollars in a bank account, ask the partnerships team before you build a pipeline. If you are happy to hold a stablecoinStablecoin A crypto token pegged to a regular currency, usually the US dollar, so its price stays close to $1. More, withdrawing in USDTUSDT Tether, the largest dollar-pegged stablecoin. Many crypto affiliate programs pay commissions in USDT. More keeps the value steady between payout and spend. NOWPayments also appears in our list of affiliate programs that pay in crypto.

Rules: what the program does and does not allow

The public rules are short. Two are explicit:

  • No self-referral. You cannot bring your own company, and you cannot earn bonuses from referring your own projects. If you run a shop and want to accept crypto, sign up as a merchant, not as your own affiliate. This is the standard self-referralSelf-referral Signing yourself, or extra accounts you control, up through your own affiliate link to earn commission. Almost every program bans it. More ban, applied to businesses.
  • Full terms sit in the Terms of Service. The affiliate page links to NOWPayments’ general Terms of Service rather than a dedicated affiliate T&C.

What is not published: a cookie windowCookie life How long after a click the program still credits you if the visitor signs up or buys. A 30-day cookie gives the user 30 days to convert. More, a sub-affiliate tier, banned traffic types, KYC rules for affiliates and restricted countries. Paid search on the NOWPayments brand is not addressed either way. When a program says nothing, the safe default is to avoid brand biddingBrand bidding Buying search ads on a brand's own name, such as 'Bitget login'. Most crypto programs ban it and can void your commissions. More and ask before running ads.

The merchant side has its own checks. Payment providers verify the businesses they serve, and some industries are a poor fit for any gateway. Before you promise a client a quick launch, check that their business is one NOWPayments will accept. Our crypto affiliate compliance guide covers why that matters for your reputation as much as for the merchant.

Who the NOWPayments affiliate program suits

Web studios and freelance developers. You already decide which payment plugins go into a client’s store. Adding a crypto checkout to a proposal costs you nothing and can pay a share for five years.

Hosting, VPN and digital-goods publishers. Businesses in these niches often get asked about crypto payments. Content that compares gateways or explains integration reaches decision-makers directly.

B2B newsletter and community owners. If your list is founders, e-commerce operators or SaaS builders, one sponsored-style tutorial can bring in merchants that keep processing long after the email is forgotten.

Who should skip: creators whose audience is retail crypto users, anyone who needs predictable monthly income from day one, and affiliates who want everything settled in a bank account on a fixed schedule. CoinGate’s automatic monthly EUR transfer, as its referral page describes it, is a better match for that last group, though its Referral Agreement mentions a €100 threshold and invoice-based payment.

Conversion tips for referring merchants

Merchant referrals are sold, not clicked. A few habits make a real difference:

Write integration content. “How to accept crypto on WooCommerce”, “Crypto subscriptions for SaaS” or “Paying contractors in USDT” are the questions business owners search for. A clear tutorial with screenshots on your own landing pageLanding page The page a visitor lands on after clicking an ad or link. It is built to persuade them to take one action. More converts better than a banner ever will. Our crypto affiliate website guide explains how to structure that kind of site.

Pitch the feature the merchant needs. NOWPayments covers invoices, subscriptions and mass payouts. A business that pays freelancers in crypto may care more about payouts than checkout; an online service with monthly plans cares about recurring billing.

Follow the merchant to the first payment. Your clock and your income both depend on transactions. Check in after integration, help with plugin settings, and make sure the checkout is visible on the site.

Track per merchant. You will have a handful of referrals, not thousands. Keep a simple sheet of each business, its go-live date and its activity so you know who to nudge and when the five-year window started.

Aim for five. The milestone at five active merchants is the only published lever for a higher rate. Planning outreach to hit it is more useful than chasing one large client.

Referral vs affiliate: one program

NOWPayments runs a single merchant-referral program. There is no separate consumer refer-a-friend scheme. The help center calls it an affiliate program, the marketing calls it partnership, and both mean the same dashboard and the same 25%. If you are researching crypto referral programs for retail users, this is not one.

CoinGate is the direct rival for agencies and developers. MoonPay’s B2B route suits wallets and apps rather than shops. If your audience swaps tokens rather than selling goods, ChangeNOW’s 0.4% of swap volume or Paybis fit better. The full picture is on the payments and cards category page, and the CPA vs RevShare vs Hybrid guide explains why a long revenue share can beat a one-off bounty for B2B referrals.

Verdict

NOWPayments offers a real five-year revenue share on merchant processing, no earnings cap, crypto withdrawals on request from 50 USDT and a boost for affiliates who bring in five active merchants. For agencies and B2B publishers, that is a solid long-tail income source.

Go in with clear eyes on three points. “Lifetime” means five years unless you earn an extension. The 25% is a share of profit, not of the fee, and the margin is not public. And the full list of payout coins, the fiat withdrawal method and any traffic rules beyond the self-referral ban are unpublished, so get the answers from the partnerships team before you commit serious outreach.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the NOWPayments affiliate program pay?

You earn 25% of NOWPayments' profit from the fees your referred merchants pay, on every transaction they process. There is no earnings cap. Referring five or more active merchants makes you eligible for bonus rewards and higher rates, which NOWPayments does not quantify publicly.

Is the NOWPayments affiliate commission really lifetime?

Not by default. The affiliate page uses the word "lifetime" but defines it as five years with potential to extend, and the help center says lifetime extensions are offered to top affiliates. Some older NOWPayments blog posts still describe a one-year period, so confirm your term in writing.

What is the NOWPayments affiliate minimum payout?

The help center sets the minimum at 50 USDT (it also phrases it as a balance above $50). You request payouts from the Request Payout tab in your dashboard to a supported crypto wallet such as BTC or ETH, with no monthly waiting period.

Can I refer my own business to NOWPayments?

No. NOWPayments states that affiliates cannot bring their own company and cannot earn bonuses from referring their own projects. The program is meant for agencies, developers and publishers who introduce other businesses.

NOWPayments vs CoinGate: which merchant referral program pays more?

It depends on fees you cannot see. CoinGate pays 20% of its fee for as long as the merchant processes; NOWPayments pays 25% of its profit on fees for five years. Neither publishes its margin. Compare them in our crypto payment gateway affiliate programs overview.
